Lesbians, bisexuals and straights in Fable II

Lesbian Gamers are reporting they've spotted lesbians in Fable II and we're wondering where the "Hoo harr" is? Where's the bad press, the bigots on their soapboxes, the closed minded christian centric hate? I mean come on, what the hell? Mass Effect gets loads of christian hating because it has "mono-gendered" alien love and Fable II has full on lesbians and not a word is peeped. Maybe the people that love to bitch about such things are busy in a meeting someplace this week, or maybe they just haven't caught on yet because Fable II is so pretty its blinded their eyes.

Odd isn't it how one game can get such huge backlash yet another sneaks swiftly on by without a word uttered. As far as we're aware Fable II got released in Singapore last week lesbians and all.

Mature gamers article - volunteers wanted!

We're knocking together a bit of a Q and A for - shall we say - the more mature gamer. We're looking for people who would be interested in taking part (male or female). Essentially we jet you off an email with questions in it, you respond and tada! It's all good!

Ex Activision PR does Playboy and what it could mean to some girl gamers

Grace Kim is the Playboy centerfold for November. She was lead PR for a little game called Guitar Hero and her November spread in Playboy is testament to her gaming past. The thing about this is she comes off in most interviews we've read like a bit of an uneducated bimbo, as well as slapping Activision in the chops, even stating she prefers RockBand (an EA IP) to Guitar Hero.

She says “I did feel a little bit guilty. Out of 100 applicants [for the Activision job] there were so many who were better for the job than I was, with years and years of gaming experience, and I was really lucky to get the job.”

So Activision, just what assets did you hire Miss thang for, because it sounds like perhaps it wasn't based on her CV at all? That being the case, this is just another case of inherent sexism within the games industry. Sure they hired a woman... whoopdedoo, PR is about the only sector that is actually fairly female heavy within the industry (probably half the pressers we receive each day are from female PR agents).

It's such a shame that someone as smart as Kim clearly is has ended up in Playboy. She says she left Activision on good terms, but given she essentially admits sneaking around when she should have been working, that's just damn odd.

Female gamers wonder why we're not taken seriously, or we have to wear skinny jeans or play Wii semi naked on YouTube to even get coverage on the 'big' gaming news sites... Miss Kim is sadly, part of the problem.

Lips Xbox 360 full track list

After a week plagued with tech difficulties and general nonsense we're back safe and well to the realm we all love... gaming. We've got word of the new "karaoke" title "Lips" by Microsoft having a fairly healthy dose of good songs mixed into its 40 or so track fanfare, so we thought we'd post the full track listing after the jump. Yeah we know, we're a female gaming site and we're posting about a singing game. Trust us, it kills us inside. Just like when we report on titles that have the word "Sims" in them. Such is the job of good journalism that we must keep the punters happy, even those that hug their stereotype like it was a big pink and fluffy security blanket. Full "Lips" tracklist after the jump.

Clock Tower movie lead goes to Milla Jovovich

According to various reports the lead in the upcoming "Clock Tower" game to movie adaption will now go to none other than Milla Jovovich. As we previously reported, it was thought to have gone to actress Britanny Snow, but it's since been confirmed Jovovich will take on the role of Alyssa Barron and not Snow at all.

Jovovich seems to have a flair for the game to movie tie-in. She is famous for taking on the role of Alice in the "Resident Evil" films. Here's hoping "Clock Tower" is better than those have turned out lately.

Halo 3 Recon and its female playable hero would save Bungie money

We realize it's a long shot and probably wishful thinking, but we've noticed Bungie playing the gender pronoun game when discussing the new "Halo 3: Recon" game. Interviews are rife with the utter avoidance if anything "he" or "him", which is fairly strange we think. Also things like "Instead of playing a super space marine, however, you'll play an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST), one who's not quite so burly or bad-ass." are popping up, which may be innocent or it may be a hint.

We're not the only female gamers thinking it either. Could Bungie FINALLY repay all their female gaming fans with a little female Shock Trooper love. From a PR perspective alone it would be genius. Think about it, all the little Halo fanboys would get into a tizzy, leading to literally thousands of forums chat about the game. Female gamers would love it, mature guy gamers would probably take it in their stride and many might think it was about time. The fanboys would still buy the game regardless and the media coverage would be so intense it would basically pay for itself ten fold.

Essentially we're thinking if Bungie made the "new hero" a female Halo hero, people would freak out or fall in love, both of which would lead to a hell of a lot of online and other media coverage they couldn't pay for! As far as PR goes it would actually be pretty shrewd.

No boy babysitters thanks!

Remember that babysitting game we mentioned a few days ago. Well we decided to contact the developers and ask a very simple question. "could you confirm whether or not it is possible to play a male babysitter in the title: My Dream Job: Babysitter". We got the response back today, and of course it was just as we'd suspected:

"Unfortunately it is not possible to play as a male babysitter in My Dream Job: Babysitter. Thanks for your interest in our title."

Well no surprise there really is there and for the record I have ZIP interest in this title. God forbid a boy should accidentally load and play a game in which he might be taught some sort of social responsibility for a baby. So it was more sexist gaming drivel. Despite the press release stating 'player' and 'kids' rather than 'she' or 'her', being as how it's looking after babies, you don't even get the option to play a male character, so why not just be friggin honest in your presser! Let's guess what the reason would be shall we "too much development time"... "too many additional costs"... YAWN!! Kind of annoying you don't even get the choice should you actually be a kid of the male variety that likes the idea of sim baby care.

LEGO Batman interview with producer Loz Doyle - Takes on female characters and who he'd turn gay for

Our pals over at Lesbian Gamers have got a really cute interview with LEGO Batman producer Loz Doyle. He spills the beans on a hidden female character in the game along with the reasons behind the omission of Batwoman as a character in game and why the online play was dropped in favor of a more family oriented co-op style of play. Along with all these tidbits of information Doyle also talks LEGO Cthuhlu, favorite words and even who he'd turn gay for... the answer to which is a complete hoot.

Sarah Palin as games characters - Governor Palin does Samus, Cortana, Meryl and more

Sarah Palin seems to be getting more and more coverage of late and now she's even entered the realm of video gaming. Gaming site Pwn or Die (a recently launched spin-off site to Funny or Die) has a set of Sarah Palin gaming images of the Governor as various games characters, including: Meryl from Metal Gear Solid, a hooker in GTA, Samus Aran, Cortana and a few others.

That's all well and good, it's in good humor, but the whole Sarah Palin thing has brought up numerous questions with regards to how women are treated in the higher echelons of not only politics, but business overall. Sarah Palin is consistently made fun of, for her accent, her career, her family pastimes, her looks. Now we're not Palin fans by any means here at GirlGamers Australia, anyone that says "Oil of coal, of course, is a fungible commodity and they don't flag, ya know, the molecules where, where it's going to, where it's not" doesn't bode well with us. What we find interesting is the way in which Hillary Clinton and now Sarah Palin are treated by not only their running mates or opposition - "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig" - but also by the media as a whole.

Sarah Palin being covered as games characters at least has her depicted as heroes for the most part. We do wonder if Mr Obama would like to use the Sarah Palin image from GTA in his campaign in the coming weeks though.. seems like a tactic either side would stoop too.

Babysitting game... Frak me.. here we go again!

FFS.. WTF.. Holy mother of f... oh you get the picture, I'm irritated again... more sexist gaming drivel. This time we have "My Dream Job: Babysitter" which is out this week stateside. What is it, well it's a babysitting simulation, though we suspect it doesn't have kids being smart mouthed little brats or overbearing parents that think your five bucks an hour should make you Martha Stewart mixed with Supernanny!

Oh no you see, according to the presser, in this game you "will take care of adorable infants and toddlers while learning about time management, responsibility, and even personal finance. My Dream Job: Babysitter allows kids to take control of all aspects of their new "business" and have fun doing all kinds of activities with their charges."

The only real upside of the presser is it says 'player' and 'kids' rather than 'she' or 'her'... thanks heavens for small mercies. Of course this comes crashing down with the boxart which features a female babysitter. You can 'Create Your Own Character' though, so we'd be interested in learning whether that includes the option of a male character... no we're not shelling out hard earned cash for this tripe.

The presser should have probably said "take care of adorable infants and toddlers while learning about what will inevitably be your responsibility as a woman when you grow up. Run your own business girls, so long as it still involves nurturing children and not wearing a suit!"
